Notre Dame reserve defensive tackle Jay Hayes won't travel with the team this week after posting critical tweets about the Fighting Irish's coaching staff, head coach Brian Kelly announced Thursday.

Hayes, who is a sophomore took to Twitter on Wednesday in an apparent criticism of the coaches for not playing him this season. Hayes has appeared in only three games through his college career, all of which came his freshman year.

“When a coach stops coaching you..that’s when you jus gotta move on,” he wrote. “Gotta get this natty [national title] and I’m out.”

Although the tweets were deleted, they were still seen by the Fighting Irish coaches.

“You have to think before you hit send, and what you have to do is knock on my door instead of hitting the send button,” said Kelly, adding that if Hayes had a job and spoke negatively about his boss, he likely would lose his job.

“He won't be on the travel roster this week for that mistake,” Kelly said.

Sixth-ranked Notre Dame takes on the Massachusetts Minutemen at home Saturday.
