Former Tulsa athletic director Judy MacLeod has been named Conference USA commissioner, making her the first female FBS commissioner, the conference announced Monday.

MacLeod will replace Britton Banowsky, who announced he was stepping down in July after 13 years to join the College Football Playoff Foundation.

MacLeod had been serving as the interim commissioner, and previously worked as the conference’s associate executive commissioner and COO since 2006. She also spent 15 years at Tulsa, 10 of them as the school’s athletic director.

There are currently several women serving as conference commissioners across America, but none of them work in one of the 10 FBS conferences.
