President Obama says he is proud of Oregon QB Marcus Mariota

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota's stellar play has even captured the attention of the Commander in Chief.

In a statement to The Washington PostPresident Obama praised the Heisman winner for representing their home state with pride.

Obama said Mariota is “as good a young man as he is an athlete, and it’s fun to watch all of Hawaii root for his success.”

Obama noted that Saint Louis is the rival to Punahou, where the president attended high school. “But I’ll let that slide since he’s been exciting to watch at Oregon,” Obama said. “Just like everyone in Hawaii, I’m very proud of him and wish him the best of luck on New Year’s Day and beyond.”
