Estadio Cibao, the largest stadium in the Dominican Republic, was damaged in a fire Wednesday morning according to various reports on Twitter. The stadium hosts the home games of the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican Winter League.

According to Jorge Arangure of Vice Sports, nearly 75 percent of the stadium was destroyed.

According to El Nacional, a Dominican newspaper (via Google Translate), areas that were destroyed include the administrative offices of the Águilas, the presidential and VIP boxes, the press box and the broadcast booth. The fire started at approximately 7 a.m. local time and was fully controlled shortly after 9 a.m., said the Santiago Fire general superintendent Colonel Ricardo Rosari.

The stadium seats more than 18,000, making it the largest in the Dominican. In 2008, it hosted the Caribbean Series, the highest Latin American club baseball tournament.
