The Giants have placed righthanded pitcher Mike Leake on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

The move is retroactive to Aug. 3. Leake was scratched from his Friday start after an MRI revealed the injury. Ryan Vogelsong started in his place.

Manager Bruce Bochy said he hoped Leake would only have to miss one start. ESPN's Jim Bowden reports the strain is Grade 1, and Leake is only expected to miss two starts.

San Francisco acquired Leake in a trade with the Cincinnati Reds on July 30. He has made one start with the Giants so far, giving up two earned runs over 6 1/3 innings in a loss to the Texas Rangers. He's gone 9–6 with a 3.52 ERA and 1.168 WHIP in 143 innings this season.

In a corresponding move, the Giants called up lefthander Josh Osich from Triple A, where he had yet to allow a run in six relief appearances.
