Report: Joe Johnson to sign with Miami Heat
Friday February 26th, 2016

The Miami Heat have signed former Brooklyn Nets guard Joe Johnson, the team announced on Saturday.

ESPN’s Zack Lowe originally reported the deal Friday.

Johnson, 34, had his contract bought out by the out-of-contention Nets on Thursday with an eye toward joining a playoff team for the stretch run. Known as a strong shooter and late-game shot maker, Johnson, a former All-Star, is averaging 11.8 points and 4.1 assists this season, the scoring totals his lowest since 2002–03.

The Heat are still in limbo as Chris Bosh’s health situation weighs on the organization, with the power forward potentially out the rest of the year with an undisclosed medical condition. Johnson provides frontcourt depth and scoring for Miami, which is also down guards Tyler Johnson and Beno Udrih to injuries.

Miami is 32–26 and fourth in the Eastern Conference.
