The Cincinnati Bengals have activated defensive tackle Geno Atkins from the physically unable to perform list, the team announced Wednesday.

Atkins began training camp on the PUP list due to the ACL tear he sustained in a game against the Miami Dolphins last Oct. 31. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis had said he expected Atkins to be activated at some point during camp.

Atkins collected six sacks in nine games before the injury last season. He was named first-team All-Pro in 2012 after leading all defensive tackles with 12.5 sacks.

Rookie linebacker Marquis Flowers, the Bengals' sixth-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft, was also activated from the PUP list. He had been dealing with a hamstring injury.

The Bengals finished third in the NFL in total defense last season despite losing Atkins and cornerback Leon Hall to injury, allowing 305.5 yards per game.
