Peyton Manning to sit out preseason opener
Thursday August 13th, 2015

Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning will sit out the preseason opener on Friday against the Seattle Seahawks, reports 9News’ Mike Klis.

Manning has not missed a preseason opener since signing with the Broncos in 2012. He is expected to play in the second preseason game, Aug. 22 against the Texas in Houston.

Brock Osweiler will start in Manning’s place. A second-round draft pick of the Broncos in 2012, Oswiler has not started a game over his three NFL seasons. Over 13 games, he has completed 17 of 30 pass attempts for 159 yards and one touchdown. Last season, he played in four games, going 4-of-10 for 52 yards and a touchdown.

The Seahawks finished last season with the top-ranked defense in both yardage and scoring.

Manning, 39, is entering his 18th season. Last season, he completed 66.2% of his passes for 4,727 yards, 39 touchdowns and 15 interceptions as the Broncos went 12–4 before losing in the AFC divisional playoffs to the Indianapolis Colts.
