Chargers, Raiders willing to change conferences if joint stadium built
The San Diego Chargers and the Oakland Raiders would be willing to move to new conferences if a proposed shared stadium is built for them near Los Angeles.
Carmen Policy, a former 49ers executive hired to oversee the stadium proposal, announced the teams' feelings on departing from the AFC West during a presentation on Monday.
“You send us to LA and you'll make the decision as to who plays in what conference or division,” Policy said, referring to the NFL and its owners. “There are some very interesting scenarios, depending on how all this turns out.”
Two teams from the same conference calling the same stadium home could introduce scheduling conflicts.

Policy also revealed updated plans for the proposed $1.78 billion, 65,000-seat stadium in Carson, which is to be built on the site of a former landfill about 12 miles from Los Angeles. The open air stadium would feature a stage for live music, a farmers market, TV screens that could be viewed from the parking lots and an on-field patio that would “blur the line between spectator and teammate.”
The tower proposed in previous plans that would simulate lightning bolts or large flames was left off this set of plans.
Rams owner Stan Kroenke has also introduced a rival proposal for a $1.8 billion, 80,000-seat stadium in Inglewood, across from Hollywood Park.
At least 24 of 32 teams would need to vote in support of team relocation. Policy predicted a decision on the move could come early next year.
