Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez opened the scoring in the ninth minute to give Mexico a 1–0 lead over the United States in the CONCACAF Cup.

Chicharito made a nice run away from the ball while his teammates exchanged short passes in the box and found himself in space to capitalize, beating U.S. keeper Brad Guzan, who had come out and left the opposite side of the net wide open.

U.S. defender Geoff Cameron evened the score minutes later, locking the North American rivals at 1–1. The game would end 3-2 to Mexico in extra time after Paul Aguilar scored a brilliant volley in the 118th minute.
