Brewers general manager Doug Melvin is trying to get in touch with his starting shortstop, Jean Segura, but he hasn't heard back from him, reports Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal.

The team placed Segura on the bereavement list Saturday following the death of his 9-month-old son, and Segura went back to his home in the Dominican Republic.

"I've made phone calls today to try to make contact with him," Melvin told the Journal-Sentinal. "I haven't been able to make contact at this time. I'm hoping to find out today. We've left messages but we haven't heard back. We just don't know right now."

If Segura doesn't come back to the team by Friday, the end of the maximum seven days on the bereavement list, he'll have to be placed on the restricted list.
