The Pittsburgh Steeler have placed center Maurkice Pouncey on injured reserve with the designation to return, the team announced Sunday.

Pouncey suffered a broken fibula in a preseason game against Green Bay, when Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix fell into his leg. He underwent surgery on Aug. 24, a day after the incident.

The five-year veteran will not be eligible to play until Week 9, which he has targeted as his intended return date, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Pouncey was taken by the Steelers with the 18th pick in the 2010 draft. In his five years with the team, he’s been named to the Pro Bowl four times, and selected twice as a First-Team All-Pro.

The Steelers open the 2015 NFL season against the Patriots on Sept. 10.
