Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey to have ankle surgery, may not miss season

Monday August 24th, 2015

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey will undergo surgery to repair a broken left ankle, but is not expected to miss the entire season, reports Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Pouncey was carted off the field after Packers safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix rolled onto Pouncey's leg on a first-quarter running play in the Steelers' 24–19 victory over Green Bay.

The four-time Pro Bowl center missed 15 games in 2013 after sustaining a torn ACL during the team's season opener. In June 2014, Pouncey signed a five-year, $44 million contract extension to remain with Pittsburgh.

The Steelers, led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and wide receiver Antonio Brown, produced 6,577 total yards of offense in 2014 with Pouncey at center. Lineman Cody Wallace will likely be called upon to fill Pouncey's void.

The Steelers will open the regular season on the road against the New England Patriots on Sept. 10.
