Series on Colin Kaepernick's Teenage Years in Production

Netflix has announced they are in the works on creating a new six-part series on Colin Kaepernick’s life. The scripted series will feature Kaepernick as a narrator and depict his life as a black teenager while growing up with his white adoptive family.

The former NFL quarterback released a statement about the upcoming series and said the following:

“Too often we see race and Black stories portrayed through a white lens. We seek to give new perspective to the differing realities that Black people face. We explore the racial conflicts I faced as an adopted Black man in a white community during my high school years.”

Kaepernick last played in the NFL in 2016 and remains a staple in the Black Lives Matter movement. In 2016, the former 49ers quarterback started kneeling during the national anthem in order to raise awareness about police brutality toward African Americans and racial injustices in America.

Daily Coronavirus Update

There are 10.1 million cases of the virus worldwide, with over 502,000 deaths.

The U.S. has 2.5 million cases and 125,000 deaths. California Governor Gavin Newsom has required that bars are closed in seven counties, including Los Angeles, and the state has recommended they be closed in eight others. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said people in the 18-to-44 age group accounted for most of the rise in positive virus tests.

“For these younger groups, they need to be thinking about who they’re coming into contact with who may be in the more vulnerable groups,” said DeSantis at a news conference Sunday.

Gilead announced that its remdesivir drug, which is being used to treat the coronavirus, will cost around $390 a vial.

Gilead, in a press release, noted that, based on current treatment patterns, this will cost consumers around $2,340 a patient in developed countries. But, for places like the U.S., the average patient will actually be paying $520 a vial, for a five-day treatment regimen that could rack up $3,120.

And if you were a patient who needed the 10-day treatment, which uses around 11 vials on average, you could be paying $5,720 as a U.S. patient, and it would cost governments $4,290.

“At the level, we have priced remdesivir and with government programs in place, along with additional Gilead assistance as needed, we believe all patients will have access,” O’Day wrote in an open letter.

It's important to note that this drug has not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration as an official COVID-19 treatment. Currently, there are no officially approved COVID-19 treatments. However, there has been success in using remdesivir on severely ill patients.
