Junior middleweight Patrick Day was in a coma following emergency brain surgery after suffering a brutal 10th-round knockout against Charles Conwell on Saturday night, according to ESPN.

Conwell dominated the fight, knocking Day out twice before landing a right hand early in the 10th and causing Day to stumble. Seconds later, Conwell landed a left hook that knocked Day to the canvas. Referee Celestino Ruiz waved off the fight at 1 minute, 46 seconds.

Day, 27, was treated by a doctor in the ring and then was rushed off on a stretcher by paramedics and transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Per ESPN, Day was given a breathing tube and went into a coma shortly afterward.

Saturday's loss marked Day's (17-4-1, 6 KOs) second defeat in a row. He suffered a 10-round decision loss to emerging junior middleweight contender Carlos Adames on June 28.

Conwell improved to 11-0, with eight KOs.
