For the last five weeks, there's been a makeshift “bubble” arena for boxing matches inside a ballroom at the MGM Grand Hotel In Las Vegas. They've been strict on the safety procedures boxers and staff are required to take. But why is it that in a sport where there's blood, spit, sweat, and plenty of germs only one referee has decided to mask up to protect himself against coronavirus?

A few weeks ago Nevada’s governor Steve Sisolak announced a mandate that everyone in the state wears a mask in public, including in private businesses. However, the boxing ring is exempt from this. Kaitlin O'Toole is joined by SI's senior writer Greg Bishop for more on this and why one ref decided to mask up.
