Meet the Only Boxing Referee Who Wears a Mask in the Ring
For the last five weeks, there's been a makeshift “bubble” arena for boxing matches inside a ballroom at the MGM Grand Hotel In Las Vegas. They've been strict on the safety procedures boxers and staff are required to take. But why is it that in a sport where there's blood, spit, sweat, and plenty of germs only one referee has decided to mask up to protect himself against coronavirus?
A few weeks ago Nevada’s governor Steve Sisolak announced a mandate that everyone in the state wears a mask in public, including in private businesses. However, the boxing ring is exempt from this.
