The Akron Zips return from a week off after a Sept. 6 loss to Penn State to host the unbeaten Marshall Thundering Herd (3-0). Prior to kickoff, Akron alum and former Marshall head coach Jack Lengyel will be honored during the coin toss. Lengyel is the man who took over at Marshall following the tragic plane crash in 1970. This will be the 13th meeting between the two teams.

Akron head coach Terry Bowden is in his third year with the Zips and has a 7-19 record.
Bowden and Marshall head coach Doc Holliday were college teammates during their careers at West Virginia in the 1970s.
The Zips are just 4-8 against Marshall, but all four wins have come at home. Akron has won two of the last three meetings between the two schools.
In the last meeting between these schools, Akron completed a 21-point comeback en route to a 31-28 victory in 2004.
Marshall is 3-0 to start a season for the first time since the team went undefeated (13-0) in 1999.
Marshall is 26-6 when scoring first and 24-2 when leading at halftime since 2010 when Holliday took over as head coach..
Marshall leads Conference USA in scoring defense (16.0 points/game), total offense (620.3 yards/game), pass efficiency (169.8) and opponent third down conversions (28.0 percent).
Thundering Herd running back Devon Johnson has 379 yards and four touchdowns on 47 carries this season.
Quarterback Rakeem Cato enters the game with a 35-game streak of throwing at least one touchdown pass.
