Auburn sends gifts to British woman mistaken for Dee Ford on Twitter

Auburn athletic director Jay Jacobs made a British woman's day after she was mistaken for a Tigers' football player on social media.

Dee Ford, a woman from Gillingham, England, began receiving tweets and messages from Auburn fans after a strong performance by Tigers' defensive end Dee Ford in the Senior Bowl on Jan. 25. The England-based Ford soon realized that Auburn fans were mistaking her for the Tigers' star on Twitter.

After a while, Ford even edited her Twitter bio to read, "NOTE! I am not the Auburn footballer, who is dee_ford_ I’m a boring surveyor from Kent." She tried her best to stiff-arm the messages with several disclaimers.

Jacobs and the university soon caught wind of the gaffe and decided to make the most of it.

On Wednesday Ford posted proof of Jacobs' offer. She received an Auburn shirt and visor, among other gifts. It looks like the Tigers gained another fan along the way.
