Report: Florida cornerback Jalen Tabor cited for marijuana possession
Florida Gators' freshman cornerback Jalen Tabor was cited in May for marijuana possession of under 20 grams according to 247sports.com's Thomas Goldkamp.
The news, revealed for the first time Monday, will apparently not result in any suspension for Tabor. The Friendship Collegiate Academy (Washington, D.C.) product must complete community service and pay prosecution fees and a small fine.
Gators head coach Will Muschamp, who spent Monday's SEC Media Days session addressing improvements to Florida's 2013 offensive woes, told the Orlando Sentinel via a university spokesman, Tabor "has faced the consequences for his actions and is very remorseful. He is aware that this is not how we represent the University of Florida."
The Sentinel reports Tabor was stopped in a vehicle at 1:54 a.m. on May 27 when police smelled what they thought to be marijuana. A small bag of pot fell from Tabor's shorts as he got out of the car.
Tabor could be an immediate contributor in the Gators' backfield. CBSSports.com reports Tabor is one of three players Muschamp has noted could line up alongside Vernon Hargreaves III in the Gators' defensive backfield.
According to the 247sports.com report, "Tabor must avoid breaking any federal or state laws and county or municipal ordinances for six months. In addition, he must pay $100 in prosecution fees to the Office of the State Attorney and donate $150 to Project Payback or serve 12 hours of community service in order to have the charge dismissed."
