EMU players charged with attacking relative of man who killed teammate

Court records show that three Eastern Michigan football players were charged with aggravated assault of the relative of a man who murdered their teammate, Demarius Reed, last October.

Court records show that three Eastern Michigan football players were charged with aggravated assault of a relative of the man who murdered their teammate, Demarius Reed, last October, according to MLive.com. 

The players -- defensive back Darius Scott and wide receivers Quincy Jones and Jay Jones -- were all charged with a single count of misdemeanor aggravated assault, which took place on Aug. 29. 

The man they assaulted, Demarco Taylor, sustained a broken facial bone and was given stitches. Police said no weapons were used in the assault. 

Taylor is the cousin of Kristopher Pratt, who plead guilty to second-degree murder of Reed and was sentenced to 18 to 30 years in prison. 

“They think I have something to do with [Reed's murder], and I do not,” said Taylor. 

According to MLive.com, the players are out of jail on bond. All three are scheduled for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 8.

EMU Assistant Athletic Director Greg Steiner said the players are currently still part of the team, which is following standard school policy regarding any disciplinary actions. All three sat out last Saturday's game and are not listed on the depth chart for the team's upcoming game.
