Former Michigan coach Lloyd Carr's grandson has inoperable brain tumor
Chad Carr, the grandson of former Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr, has been diagnosed with an inoperable, malignant brain tumor.
Chad, who turned four on Friday, will serve as the Wolverines' honorary captain for their home game against Minnesota on Saturday, the school announced. He will walk out to midfield for the coin toss with the team's other captains and his family.
The Carr family is "encouraging people to support pediatric brain cancer research through a wrist bracelet/prayer band sale," the school said.
The prayer bands, which say #ChadTough on them, can be purchased online at mden.com, and the $3 charge will go to support The Chad Tough Fund for pediatric brain cancer research at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital on the Michigan campus.
The bracelets are orange, which is Chad's favorite color, and say "Pray for a Miracle."
Many people have reached out to the Carr family on social media since Chad was diagnosed with diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, a type of brain tumor.
Chad Carr is the son of former Michigan quarterback Jason Carr and Tammi Curtis Carr. He has two older brothers, ages seven and nine.
