Florida QB Treon Harris' attorney denies client's alleged sexual assault
The attorney of University of Florida quarterback Treon Harris, whose client is being investigated for an alleged sexual assault, released a statement to the media Thursday denying many of the allegations.
On Monday, Harris was indefinitely suspended from all team activities after he was accused of sexually assaulting a female student early Sunday morning. As of Thursday afternoon, no charges have been filed against Harris.
Harris' attorney, Huntley Johnson, said he does not expect Harris to be arrested or prosecuted. Johnson's full statement is available here.
Misstatements in the media to date have painted a picture that is inconsistent with the evidence. That said, we have fully cooperated with this investigation.
The attorney said Harris has provided law enforcement with witnesses, as well as a search of his phone and dorm room.
On Monday, Florida president Bernie Machen said said the school has no tolerance for sexual assault.
"The university is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for every member of the UF community. We must strive to protect all of our students from sexual harassment and assault, and do everything in our power to promote a safe learning environment."
Harris, a true freshman, took over for starter Jeff Driskel in the fourth quarter of Florida's Oct. 4 game against Tennessee. Harris led the Gators to a comeback 10-9 win, orchestrating two scoring drives after Florida had been shut out to that point.
