Fired Will Muschamp wants to coach next season
Fired Florida head coach Will Muschamp said he would like to coach somewhere next season.
Muschamp was let go after four seasons with the program after the team lost to South Carolina 23-20 in overtime on Saturday. Florida has gone 27-20 in Muschamp’s tenure, including 17-15 in the SEC.
He will coach the Gators last two regular-season games this season against Eastern Kentucky and Florida State.
“I’m looking forward to that next step, but what that will be I have no idea,” Muschamp said to the Associated Press. “I haven't put any thought into that as far as where, what, when and how. I don't know all those things. Certainly, right now, my focus is on this team and getting us ready for these next two games.”
Muschamp’s name has already been floated around for defensive coordinator positions that are not vacant yet. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said he thinks Muschamp will land a job next season.
''If he wants to coach again next year, I'm sure a lot of people will be after him,'' Spurrier said.
Muschamp’s defenses have been fairly solid in his four seasons, ranking fifth in 2012, eighth last season and 20th this season.
It’s the offensive side of the ball that has been the problem. This season, Florida ranks 116th out of 125 FBS in passing offense and 107th in team passing efficiency.
