Illinois adds student manager to roster

Illinois has added student manager Ryan Schmidt to its roster, the team announced on Friday.

Schmidt played on the varsity team at Central Catholic High School in Bloomington, Ill.

He was in his fourth season serving as the Illini's on-court manager.

The addition of Schmidt comes after guard Aaron Cosbysustained a torn retina in his eye, potentially causing him to miss up to two weeks.

The Illini also lost guard Rayvonte Rice to a broken hand earlier this month, and Tracy Abrams is out for the season with a knee injury.

The Illini (13-7) play at Minnesota on Saturday.
