Ex-Florida TE coach Derek Lewis to take same job with Air Force
Former Florida tight ends coach Derek Lewis is expected to join Air Force in the same position, according to a source.
Lewis, 37, is a noted recruiter, especially in his native New Orleans. He replaces former Air Force tight ends coach Jake Moreland, who left last month for Syracuse.
Lewis spent the last four seasons overseeing tight ends for the Gators. Before that, he was tight ends coach and assistant special teams coach at Minnesota from 2007-10.

He briefly was at North Texas in January 2007 as defensive ends coach before leaving for the Gophers. He was a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Texas, from 2005-06.
Lewis was also a member of the NFL’s St. Louis Rams from 1999-00, winning a Super Bowl ring. He played tight end for the Longhorns from 1995-98.
Lewis joins an Air Force team that had a remarkable 10-3 record this past season under coach Troy Calhoun, who has emerged as one of the nation’s most underrated coaches. Calhoun has guided the Falcons to a bowl in seven of his eight seasons, including a win in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl this past season.
He has an impressive 59-44 record at the service academy.
