Bowling Green promotes Andrew Sowder to outside receivers coach
Bowling Green director of player personnel Andrew Sowder is expected to be promoted to outside receivers coach, according to a source.
The promotion marks a return to the role for Sowder, who previously coached outside receivers for two years under head coach Dino Babers at Eastern Illinois. Sowder followed Babers to Bowling Green this past year.
Under Sowder’s tutelage, Eastern Illinois’ wide receivers racked up 395 catches for 5,213 yards with 55 touchdowns in 2013 and 341 catches for 4,019 yards with 34 touchdowns in ’12.

He began his coaching career at Baylor as an undergraduate assistant, helping Babers coach wide receivers and special teams in 2009 and ’10. Sowder then coached running backs for a season at West Texas A&M before reuniting with Babers at Eastern Illinois.
In addition to coaching under Baylor’s Art Briles, Sowder has an added familiarity with Briles’ offense from playing in the system as a tight end for the Bears. Babers has since brought the up-tempo spread offense with him to Eastern Illinois and Bowling Green.
The Falcons went 8-6 in Babers’ debut season, winning the MAC East division despite losing star quarterback Matt Johnson to a season-ending hip injury in the opener. Bowling Green returns most of its star power at receiver, including freshman sensation Roger Lewis, who caught 73 passes for 1,093 yards with seven touchdowns in 2014.
