Brian Kelly: Notre Dame considered bringing in grad transfer QB
Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly said Tuesday that the Irish considered bringing in a graduate transfer quarterback after Everett Golson decided to transfer, according to the South Bend Tribune.
Golson transferred to Florida State last month after graduating from Notre Dame, leaving the team with little experience at the position.
“There were definitely conversations about it,” Kelly said. “We had some guys that we had targeted that we had looked at. But as we moved forward, we looked at some future players that we had and were recruiting, and we didn’t want to crowd the space for them. That, ultimately, made our decision as to how we were going to move forward with the quarterback position.”
Junior Malik Zaire is expected to be the starter in 2015. Zaire appeared in seven games last season for Notre Dame, completing 21-of-35 passes for 266 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for two touchdowns on the ground.

Kelly's other options at quarterback are sophomore DeShone Kizer, sophomore Montgomery VanGorder and incoming freshman Brandon Wimbush. Kizer spent last year as the team's third-string quarterback.
The Irish finished 8–5 in 2014, losing their final four regular season games before defeating LSU in the Music City Bowl.
