Florida State running back Dalvin Cook's trial date set for Aug. 24

Cook was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery after allegedly hitting a woman outside a Tallahassee bar on June 23. He demanded a speedy trial, and his request was approved by a Leon County judge.

Florida State running back Dalvin Cook's trial date is set for Aug. 24 on Wednesday, reports the Tallahassee Democrat. 

Cook was charged with one count of misdemeanor battery after allegedly hitting a woman outside a Tallahassee bar on June 23. He demanded a speedy trial, and his request was approved by a Leon County judge. 

Cook could face up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted, according to Sports Illustrated's Michael McCann. 

The sophomore running back was suspended indefinitely in July by the Seminoles after he voluntarily turned himself in to Leon County Jail.

Cook, a Miami native, ran for over 1,000 yards in his freshman season at Florida State. He averaged 5.9 yards per carry and scored eight touchdowns. 

The Seminoles open the 2015 season on Sept. 5 at home against Texas State.
