Watch: Female kicker April Goss makes extra point for Kent State
Kent State's April Goss became the second female kicker in college football history to score in a game after kicking an extra point in the first half of Saturday's 45-13 win over Delaware State.
Goss completed the kick with 4:30 left in the second quarter, for a 29-6 Kent State lead. Kent State initially sent out starter Shane Hynes, but after taking a timeout, head coach Paul Haynes sent Goss out to take it.
The kick went to the right, but Goss converted, celebrating with teammates on the sidelines afterward.
"I was a little disappointed I didn't make a better kick," Goss told the Associated Press. "I was sure it was going right, but it did go through. I'll probably beat myself up for that for a little while, but it was awesome."
New Mexico's Katie Hnida converted two extra points in 2003, becoming the first woman to score in a major college football game. Goss is the only woman currently on a Division I roster.
"She works her tail off. She's the first one out there in practice and the last one off the field," Haynes said of Goss earlier in the week. "Every time someone gets up and talks, one of our players gets up and talks, they always talk about they've got brothers, and a sister."
