Fresno State loses second quarterback to season-ending injury
Fresno State quarterback Ford Childress is likely out for the remainder of the season after he had surgery on an “internal injury,” the school announced Sunday.
The Bulldogs have now lost two quarterbacks to season-ending injuries, each after they started just one game. Childress started Saturday’s game against San Jose State and played the entire game. He was taken to a hospital after the team arrived back in Fresno. True freshman Chason Virgil fractured his collarbone in the Bulldogs’ loss to Utah last week and is done for the year.
Virgil started against Utah after sophomore Zack Greenlee started the first two games of the season. Greenlee was arrested for public drunkeness just hours after Virgil was injured and did not play in the game against San Jose State.
The team said Greenlee and linebacker Brandon Hughes, who was arrested with him, would “serve their discipline” against the Spartans but did clarify what the discipline was. Greenlee was in uniform against San Jose State but did not play.
Greenlee is expected to start next week against San Diego State, according to the Fresno Bee.
