NCAA alleges recruiting violations against Louisiana-Lafayette
The NCAA has accused the University of Louisiana-Lafayette of recruiting violations, the school confirmed Sunday to The Daily Advertiser. The schools has announced self-imposed sanctions in response to the allegations.
UL-Lafayette responded to a notice of allegations from the NCAA in late August, in which the NCAA accused former UL-L assistant David Saunders of breaking recruiting-related rules. The allegations involve an academic eligibility issue regarding standardized test scores of multiple recruits signed by current head coach Mark Hudspeth, according to the report.
The report says the athletes involved, Hudspeth and recruiting coordinator Reed Stringer had no knowledge of wrongdoing.
Among the allegations in documents obtained by the Advertiser is Saunders arranged for an ACT supervisor to alter a recruit’s answer sheet after the test, “in such a manner that he would receive a fraudulent score.”

Saunders left UL-L in August of last year. He joined the program in 2011.
Among the sanctions UL-L imposed are reductions in scholarships and recruiting visits. Most significantly, the school has vacated its entire nine-win 2011 season.
