Former Texas WR Kendall Sanders found not guilty of sexual assault
Former Texas wide receiver Kendall Sanders was found not guilty of sexual assault on Friday, reports Ryan Autullo of the Austin American-Statesman.
Sanders was arrested in July 2014 after he was accused of sexually assaulting a fellow Texas student in a campus dorm room, and was dismissed from the team by head coach Charlie Strong the following month. He had faced 2–20 years in prison if found guilty.
Former teammate, wide receiver Montrel Meander, was also arrested for his involvement in the incident. He awaits a trial later this month.
At the time of Sanders’s dismissal, he was entering his junior campaign with the Longhorns. In seven starts in 2013, Sanders had 37 receptions for 361 receiving yards.
“I’d love to go back to UT,” Sanders told Autullo on Friday.
The former Longhorn currently has one year of NCAA eligibility remaining, but will reportedly petition for two.
