Report: Florida QB Will Grier appealing suspension for PEDs
Florida quarterback Will Grier will reportedly appeal his year-long NCAA suspension for violating the performance-enhancing drug policy, according to GatorCountry.com.
Grier, the Gators’ starter, faces a 12-month ban after testing positive. His penalty was announced Oct. 12. GatorCountry.com reports that Grier immediately sought legal counsel and representation and that the university, head coach Jim McElwain and athletic director Jeremy Foley have been supportive throughout the process.
Grier has claimed he took an over-the-counter supplement and didn’t realize it contained a substance banned by the NCAA. “I really hope that people can learn from my mistake,” said Grier on the day of his suspension announcement, “and I'm really sorry to everyone.”
The report indicates Greer plans to argue that he was informed that a supplement he admitted to taking was legal, and must prove he was unaware of its unacceptability.
At present, Grier’s suspension would sideline him through the first six games of the 2016 season.
In Grier’s absence, Florida has gone 1–1, losing to LSU Oct. 17 and beating Georgia handily on Saturday. Treon Harris has taken over quarterback duties in his stead.
