Cal head coach Sonny Dykes agrees to contract extension through 2019
Cal head coach Sonny Dykes has agreed to a four-year contract extension that will keep him in Berkeley through 2019, the school announced Thursday.
The new deal pays out an average of $2.825 million over its duration and and includes an annual $3 million salary pool for his assistant coaches.
Dykes has compiled a 13–23 record at Cal since joining the program on a five-year contract in 2013. He took over a struggling team, going 1–11 and failing to win a conference game in his first season. This season, the Golden Bears finished the regular season 7–5 and will play in their first bowl game under Dykes.
Cal takes on Air Force in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 29.

Dykes started his head coaching career with Louisiana Tech in 2010 after serving as offensive coordinator at Texas Tech and Arizona State. Dykes, who his known for his high-powered passing offenses, went 22–15 in three seasons with Louisiana Tech.
