Texas Tech’s Kevin Kilmer is new Bowling Green co-OC
Texas Tech offensive quality control coach Kevin “Moe” Kilmer is the new co-offensive coordinator for Bowling Green coach Mike Jinks, according to sources.
It’s a move that keeps Kilmer and Jinks together after working closely at Texas Tech the past three years. Before being an offensive quality control coach for the Red Raiders, Kilmer had been one of the program’s offensive graduate assistants.
He got his start in coaching at Texas Tech as a student assistant under former coach Mike Leach, who also gave Kilmer his nickname. It’s after a character named Kevin “Moe” Reilly in Brotherhood, a television series about two brothers in an Irish neighborhood in Providence, R.I.
“He was such a totally blue-collar guy who was sort of unconsciously tough,” Leach says of Kilmer. “With him going to Bowling Green, Ohio, the name is more appropriate than ever. Ohio, if you think about it, it’s kind of a “Moe” state. There’s some Moes in Ohio. Blue collar, tough, perhaps a leather jacket. That kind of thing. I’m very happy he got a job. He’s worked hard. He was always a very loyal guy. I can’t say that 100 percent of the people I dealt with at Tech were loyal. After all, they owe me for 2009 and still haven’t paid me.”

Kilmer’s father, Eddie, is the defensive coordinator at Cleveland High in Rio Rancho, N.M., and helped the program win the state’s Class 6A state championship last week. Jinks was named Bowling Green’s coach earlier this week after spending the last three years as Texas Tech’s running backs coach.
Jinks was also the Red Raiders’ associate head coach this season. A well respected former Texas high school coach, he won a Class 5A Division II state title in the Lone Star State in 2010 at San Antonio-area Byron P. Steele II High.
Jinks replaces former Bowling Green coach Dino Babers, who took the same position at Syracuse. The Falcons (10–3) won the MAC championship this season and play Georgia Southern (8–4) in the GoDaddy Bowl on Dec. 23.
