Four-star DT Shavar Manuel commits to Florida State
Four-star defensive tackle flipped his commitment from Florida to in-state rival Florida State on signing day, according to Tomahawknation.com.
The 6’4”, 290-pound lineman is rated as the 84th-best player in the 2016 class and the top defensive tackle in the state of Florida, according to Scout.com.
Here is Scout’s analysis of Manuel:
“Manuel has added weight over the last couple of years and while doing so, he has become a three-technique instead of a strongside end. He still has a good first step off the ball and he can be someone who can get into the backfield. He will play at over 300 pounds in college and plug gaps and help collapse the pocket. His pure strength may be the best part of his game. When he stays low, he can overpower the offensive lineman in front of him. As he continues to refine his game and become more consistent with his hands, pad level, and moves, he could really blossom into an elite interior lineman. He is athletic for a guy of his size and he can really be a force on the inside. Early in his high school career, he was a sack-master off the edge, so he knows how to get into the backfield. Now, with his size, strength, and athleticism, he could be a real terror on the inside on the next level.”
Manuel originally committed to the Gators on Jan. 5.
He is the third player from IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to join Florida State’s 2016 class, along with Malik Henry and Ricky Aguayo.
