A district judge ruled that the surveillance video of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon punching a female student will remain sealed for now.

A district judge ruled that the surveillance video of Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon punching a female student will remain sealed for now, according to Jason Kersey of NewsOK.com.

On Monday, an Oklahoma appeals court ruled that the footage should be revealed as public record. The district judge received the case after the Oklahoma Court of Civil Appeals ruled there was a mistake when a lawsuit to make the video public was dismissed.

It remains to be seen if the video is a public record according to the Oklahoma Open Records Act.

The city of Norman originally refused to release video of the incident, leading to lawsuits by media companies seeking access to the video. A judge ruled last year, however, that the city did not have to release the video because it was shown to the media. OU president David Boren, athletic director Joe Castiglione and head coach Bob Stoops also viewed the video.

Mixon was suspended for the entirety of the 2014 season after being charged with assaulting an Oklahoma female student at a restaurant near Oklahoma’s campus.

According to the police, the woman sustained a fractured jaw, fractured cheek bone, fractured sinus and fractured orbit.

Mixon accepted an “Alford Plea” to the misdemeanor charge of acts resulting in gross injury/outraging public decency, and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service. The plea allows him to maintain his innocence, but also states there is enough evidence to convict him.

The Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters wants to make sure that the public can view all of the information used by government officials to make decisions​.

Mixon addressed the media ahead of the College Football Playoff, but only wanted to answer football-related questions.

Mixon was the Sooners’ second leading rusher last season with an average of 6.8 yards per carry. In 2015, he rushed for 753 yards and seven touchdowns.
