Clemson WR Mike Williams cleared, Deon Cain to miss spring practice
Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney told reporters on Monday that wide receiver Deon Cain would miss spring practice and wide receiver Mike Williams has been cleared for football activities.
Cain, who was one of three players suspended for the Orange Bowl after violating team rules, had 34 catches for an average of 17.1 yards with five touchdowns during his freshman season.
Swinney said he wanted to lighten some of Cain’s football requirements during the current semester and that if the wide receiver meets his requirements, he would be prepared for fall, reports WYFF.com’s Brad Fralick.
Williams was injured in the first quarter of Clemson’s season opener against Wofford on Sept. 5. The wide receiver collided with the goalpost support and sustained a neck fracture before being carted off the field.
Williams, who was the Tigers’ No. 1 receiver entering the 2015 season, will not get tackled in spring practice as a precaution.
Clemson’s spring game is set for April 9 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
