Rutgers settles for $300,000 with ex-player in Mike Rice lawsuit

Former Rutgers player Derrick Randall will receive $300,000 in a settlement with the university over the 2013 lawsuit stemming from allegations of abuse by former coach Mike Rice.
The lawsuit was settled April 7, following the appointment of a mediator, MyCentralJersey.com reports.
Randall claimed he was "chronically and heinously targeted and abused, both physically and psychologically," by Rice, who was fired in 2013, the day after ESPN’s Outside the Lines aired extensive video from Rice’s practices. The videos showed the coach using behavior including cursing at players and throwing basketballs at them. The lawsuit asked for compensation for “continuous, physical, verbal and emotional injuries,” lost economic opportunities and earning potential.
Rice spent last season as the interim head coach at New Jersey’s Patrick School, long a basketball power program.
