Army cornerback Brandon Jackson killed in single-car crash
Army sophomore cornerback Brandon Jackson died Sunday after a single-car crash in Croton, New York, just hours after the team's victory over Rice, the United States Military Academy announced Monday.
Jackson, who was from Queens, New York, was 20 years old.
Croton-on-Hudson police responded to reports of a car crash early Sunday morning at around 1:50 a.m, about 20 miles from the academy. After arriving on the scene, cops saw that a car had crashed into a guardrail, and Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation.
“We will honor his life as we mourn the untimely death of a young man who had a promising future as a leader in service to our Nation." Lt. Gen. Robert L. Caslen Jr., Superintendent of the U. S. Military Academy, said in a letter. "Brandon internalized our watch words, Duty, Honor, Country.”
Jackson played in every game last season, making nine starts. He intercepted a team-leading three passes and made 62 tackles.
This season, Jackson had six tackles and two pass breakups for Army, who is 2–0 for the first time in 20 years. The Black Knights won two games all of last season.
“Words cannot describe the grief that our team is feeling over the loss of our brother and friend, Brandon" said Army head coach Jeff Monken. “He was a beloved teammate and our hearts are with his family at this time of tragedy.”
