The South Carolina-Georgia game scheduled to be played Saturday night in Columbia appears unlikely to go on as planned, South Carolina governor Nikki Haley said Tuesday.

The state is bracing for the arrival of Hurricane Matthew, which made landfall in Haiti earlier Tuesday and is forecasted to impact the Southeast this weekend.

“It’s a complete decision based on the schools,” Haley said at a news conference. “As of now I can’t imagine that happening but certainly we’re going to continue to watch this. I would love nothing more than to see this take a right-hand turn and go out to sea. As it looks right now, we’re looking at Friday afternoon into Saturday being pretty brutal.”

The school said it is monitoring the forecast will wait before making a decision.

The governor has already declared a state of emergency.

Charleston Southern has already moved its game this weekend from Saturday morning to Thursday night.
