Delaware fires Brock as football coach

(STATS) - The University of Delaware fired coach Dave Brock midway through a disappointing season on Sunday - the first FCS school to replace its coach this season.

Delaware was 19-22 and without an FCS postseason appearance in 3 1/2 seasons under the 49-year-old Brock. The CAA Football program had hoped its veteran team would have a turnaround this season, but the Blue Hens fell to 2-4 with Saturday's 24-17 loss to William & Mary.

Co-defensive coordinator Dennis Dottin-Carter, who was hired to Brock's original staff in 2013, was named the interim coach for the remainder of the season. He is a 2003 graduate of the University of Maine.

"After thorough consideration and assessment, we have made the decision to change leadership of our football program and I informed Dave this afternoon," athletic director Christine Rawak said in a news release. "As he has been throughout his time at UD, Dave was a true professional. We want to thank him for his four years of service to the University of Delaware. Ultimately, the hard work and effort off the field did not result in the success that we expect on the field. We wish Dave and his family the best."

Brock's lack of consistent success was hurt further by the fact he replaced highly successful K.C. Keeler, who was fired after the 2012 season. Keeler coached the Blue Hens to the 2004 FCS title and two other appearances in the national championship game over 11 seasons.
