Syracuse QB Eric Dungey still being tested

Syracuse is back home in the Carrier Dome on Saturday against North Carolina State, and coach Dino Babers still doesn't know who will quarterback the Orange.

Sophomore Eric Dungey was knocked out of last weekend's 54-0 loss at Clemson. His status for the upcoming game won't be known until Thursday night.

''We're waiting for the test results to come back,'' Babers said Wednesday.

The depth chart earlier this week listed both Austin Wilson and Zack Mahoney as backups to Dungey.

Dungey appeared woozy as he was escorted to the locker room at Clemson in the first quarter. He watched the rest of the game in street clothes.

Dungey was felled by a hard hit to the upper shoulder and subsequent glancing blow off his helmet by linebacker Dorian O'Daniel. It wasn't ruled a helmet-to-helmet hit, but it was enough to send Dungey to the sidelines once more.

During his freshman season in 2015, Dungey missed four games because of several hard hits to the head that included at least one concussion.

Babers said Monday during his weekly press conference that he didn't know the extent of Dungey's injury. He added that Dungey missed Sunday's team meeting because he was undergoing testing.

Both Wilson and Mahoney played against Clemson, and Babers said it was too early to say how they would be used against the Wolfpack if Dungey is ruled out. Babers said the decision on who starts would be based off practices and the play calling the staff feels will be most effective against N.C. State.

Wilson, who played for the first time this season, finished 17 of 27 for 116 yards passing against Clemson, both career highs, but threw two interceptions. Mahoney was 1 of 4 for eight yards.

Both teams are 4-5 overall and still chasing a chance to play in the postseason.
