Roughly a week after taking an official visit to Washington State, Lincoln Prep (Can.) scoring guard Jefferson Koulibaly gave the Cougars a big boost to their backcourt, picking them over Maryland, Iowa, South Dakota, Georgetown, Missouri State and Holy Cross.

“As soon as I got on campus, I knew that it was the place for me,” Koulibaly said. “I liked everything about the campus, the team and the coaches. It was the perfect fit for me.”

Koulibaly is widely regarded as a top five player in Canada.

That much is evident in his production this season – 30 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and three steals a game.

“Jefferson has improved all year and shown he can handle the primary role as leader, scorer and facilitator,” said Monday Morning Scouting Report president Wesley Brown. “He is leading the OSBA in points and plays with a chip on his shoulder, so you know he’ll maximize his potential.”

Perhaps the best part about Koulibaly’s commitment is that the Cougars won’t have to wait to reap the benefits; Koulibaly also announced that he was reclassifying from 2021 to 2020.

“They want me to come in and produce right away,” Koulibaly said. “That was big for me to hear. I just can’t wait to get there and get to work. It’s a relief to have it out of the way. To be able to play in the Pac-12 against the best players in college basketball is exciting.”
