Elite Wing Ziaire Williams Commits to Stanford

Williams picked the Cardinal over Arizona, USC, North Carolina, UCLA and Oregon.

On March 10, Ziaire Williams drained what ended up being the final shot of Sierra Canyon’s (Chatsworth, Calif.) high school season, a game-winner to knock off Etiwanda (Cucamonga, Calif.) and claim the CIF SoCal Regional title.

The season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic shortly thereafter.

Now, Williams is hoping to pick up where he left off, this time at Stanford, where he committed Sunday afternoon, just three days before the start of the NCAA's spring signing period, which kicks off on April 15.

Williams picked the Cardinal over Arizona, USC, North Carolina, UCLA and Oregon.

In 21 games this season, Williams averaged 15 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists a game. Williams sat out for roughly the first month due to transfer rules.

SI All-American First Team | Second Team | Third Team

Williams managed the numbers despite playing alongside multiple elite players like Brandon Boston, an SI All-American who is signed to Kentucky, Amari Bailey, widely regarded as one of the top sophomores in the country and multiple other Division-I prospects.

What is Stanford getting in Williams?

An exceptionally athletic wing with great size (6-foot-7), Williams is adept at scoring on all three levels. His ball handling ability allows him to create soring opportunities for himself and his teammates and his high basketball IQ helps him to dominate in multiple facets on both ends of the floor.

Williams’ versatility changes Stanford’s entire approach on both ends, which should help since the Cardinal finished near the middle of the Pac-12, averaging just 69.5 points a game.

Williams joins Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) shooting guard Noah Taitz, Toreey Pines (Encinitas, Calif.) wing Brandon Angel and Millard North (Omaha, Neb.) forward Max Murrell to form the Cardinal’s 2020 haul.
