Late-Riser Ennis Rakestraw Signs with Missouri

One of the hottest class of 2020 football prospects down the stretch, Ennis Rakestraw capped his recruitment with a signature to the Missouri Tigers.

One of the most anticipated recruitments has come to a close early on National Signing Day. Ennis Rakestraw is headed to Missouri.

The Duncanville (Texas) defensive back picked the Tigers over Alabama and Texas down the stretch following official visits to each program in January.

Battle-tested and polished in zone coverage, Rakestraw often found himself guarding the best receivers the state of Texas has to offer. Two years of valuable reps against top competition culminated in late offers from Alabama, Texas, Missouri, and Ole Miss, and earned him defensive player of the year honors from the Dallas Morning News.

Going into Missouri, the 6’0 170-pound Rakestraw has the frame to add another 15 or so pounds, and must, if he’s going to try and play that same tenacious brand of cover 2 he did during his senior year at Duncanville.

Up until December 26, Rakestraw had almost entirely non-power 5 offers. But Missouri, as he said in his announcement, believed before other blue bloods did. It clearly held up in the end.

Rakestraw fits best out on the edge as a true corner, with plus vision that lead to 15 pass breakups. Additionally, Rakestraw played a huge role in the stifling of 5-star Ohio State-bound wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who was held to under 40 receiving yards and no touchdowns in their matchup.
