IMG QB AJ Duffy Sets College Commitment Date

A.J. Duffy rolled into the Orlando Elite 11 Regional on Sunday with the highest expectations of any quarterback on the roster, and all he did was live up to the hype of being one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the country.
"I showed how I grew as a player," he said. "It's been the longest offseason that I've had. My focus has been everywhere."
About three dozen programs have extended scholarship offers towards the California native, who is enrolled and set to cap his prep career at IMG Academy in Florida.
The fate of his next step after IMG is to be decided at the end of the month, March 31, he confirmed to SI All-American. The day is significant because it is his mother's birthday and there is growing intrigue about which program may land the right-handed passer.
The 6'2", 218-pound prospect has publicly announced a top four of Florida State, Michigan State, Penn State and Oregon. But at last check, Duffy admitted additional programs remain in the mix and under consideration some two weeks out from making the commitment public.
"I'm still in communication with Arizona State, I talk to them a lot," he said. "I still talk to West Virginia a lot, also. I'm close with the whole staff at West Virginia, too. I have a group of, probably, eight schools that I talk to right now. I'm just focused on those four.
"My top four is my top four."

In making the final evaluation between options coast to coast, the track record and potential staying power of various offensive coordinators and play callers is under heavy consideration.
When asked of his best relationships among assistants, Duffy mentioned Florida State's Kenny Dillingham, Michigan State's Jay Johnson and Arizona State's Zak Hill in addition to multiple West Virginia coaches.
Regardless of where he commits, though, there is a clear desire for the scheme and type of coaching the rising-senior recruit would like to receive.
"I just really want to get developed," he said. "An offensive coordinator who is going to stay, is involved in the area-type. I think I can play in any offense, I want one that likes to throw the ball, obviously. I'm not super selfish, I know we have to run it.
"I want a guy who is going to get after me. I want to be coached hard, I want a guy who is gonna demand greatness from me every day. Not a real laid back type of guy."
Duffy, who last played in 2019 at Moreno Valley (Calif.) Rancho Verde where he accounted for 30 touchdowns in 12 games, will announce his decision via social media.
