Motorcycle racing in the streets, stairs and alleys of Portugal

Wednesday November 12th, 2014

There's a reason motorcycles aren't driven on sidewalks in major cities. A powerful engine usually doesn't mix well with lots of people in close quarters.

The Extreme XL de Lagares in Portugal is an exception to the rule. The race features head-to-head motorcycle racing in the streets, stairs and alleys of Lagares.

In this video, rider Ben Hemingway gives us a first-person look at how demanding the urban course is as he races Andreas Lettenbichler. Adding to the difficulty of the course, spectators are close enough to touch the riders, including one cameraman who almost sacrificed his tripod while searching for the perfect shot.
