Hall of Fame receiver Andre Reed has some Hall of Fame-quality quotes in a feature in this week's New York Magazine. Reed appears in a story titled "Jon Bon Jovi Is the Most Hated Man in Buffalo," referring to the reports that Bon Jovi might buy the Bills and move them to Toronto.
Reed appears in a story titled "Jon Bon Jovi Is the Most Hated Man in Buffalo," referring to the reports that Bon Jovi might buy the Bills and move them to Toronto.
“Man, f--- Bon Jovi!” Reed told New York. “You might as well just take this city, throw it in the river, and let it go down Niagara Falls.”
Is not as though Reed hates Toronto, though. “Now, I ain’t gonna lie to you,” he told New York. “One year I went up to Toronto, and man, I had a good-ass time up there.”
As it happens, Reed's encounter with Reeves Wiedeman, the author of the piece, came on the day LeBron James' essay announcing his return to Cleveland appeared on SI.com. Members of the Buffalo Fan Alliance, a Bills fan group, discuss the idea of James returning to his roots in a Rust Belt city not unlike Buffalo. Then, when a television shows Johnny Manziel's tweet referring to James as "my guy", Reed gets ticked off.
“Who the f--- is Johnny Manziel?” Reed said. “LeBron ain’t your guy! You’re not ‘Johnny Football.’ You’re ‘Johnny Rookie B----.’ ” Reed said he didn’t think a blue-collar town like Buffalo, which he thought wears an even truer shade of denim than Cleveland, would stand for Manziel’s antics. “They’d boo that motherf----- outta here,” he said. “The fans would put him in his place.”
Right. Buffalo fans prefer the mediocrity of guys like Ryan Fitzpatrick to the electricity of a Heisman winner.
