NCAA ref looks very unsure of this first down signal

Friday October 24th, 2014

Thursday night's Miami-Virgina Tech game was a bit of a blowout, with the Hurricanes going to Blacksburg and defeating the Hokies 30-6, but those fans who stuck around to watch were still rewarded.

At the beginning of the second half, ref Ron Cherry, who is best known for his still hilarious "Giving him the business" call, either forgot what to do with his arm while signaling for a first down, or just decided to jazz the call up a little bit.

Refs should be given more latitude to spice up their calls if they deem a game to be too boring. At the very least they should all adopt Cherry's new and improved first down signal.
